1st International wine-tasting contest

Awards to be announced during day one of the event at the Bilbao Exhibition Centre on October 8, 2007

FOCCUS GASTRONÓMICO CALLS 1ST INTERNATIONAL WINE-TASTING CONTEST

Gastronomic fair promoter PROFEGAS, the organiser of Foccus Gastronómico, and the Bilbao Exhibition Centre have opened the registration period for their 1st International Wine tasting Contest, which is open to red, white, rosé, sparkling, sweet and Generoso wines and liqueurs from anywhere in the world.

The rules and regulations of the contest can be found at Bilbao Exhibition Centre, The organisers are seeking to promote the development of a culture of wine and reasonable consumption on the basis of its status as a natural product with positive qualities for health and personal enjoyment, to promote among trade visitors and the public alike the rich traditions of the wines taking part, to bring together top-class wine tasters and establish a point of contact between them, and finally to bolster confidence in awards of this type.

The organisation, staging and awarding of prizes and trophies in the contest will be handled by “Xocunda Academia del Bien Libar”, the oldest private wine tasting club in Spain, founded in 1971. Its members include ordinary wine drinkers and experts in sensorial analysis and the culture of wine. The club’s reputation extends beyond Spain’s borders.

The list of prize-winners will be announced during day one of the event, which will take place at the Bilbao Exhibition Centre from October 8-10. This first gastronomy and quality foodstuffs fair in northern Spain will provide producers with a chance to present all their latest innovations to the trade in various exhibition areas, tastings and demonstrations organised aisle by aisle in thematic areas.
