Gastronomy and high-quality foodstuffs at the BEC

To be staged on October 8-10 2007 under the name “Foccus Gastronómico”

FIRST GASTRONOMY AND HIGH-QUALITY FOODSTUFFS FAIR FOR THE TRADE AT THE BEC

Foccus Gastronómico, the first gastronomy and high-quality foodstuffs fair for the trade to be held at the Bilbao Exhibition Centre, will be staged on October 8-10 this year. It is organised by the gastronomic fair promoter PROFEGAS and by the BEC itself.

A number of exhibition areas, tastings and demonstrations will be featured, distributed aisle by aisle is a thematic areas, where producers can present, promote, offer, try out and test their products on the trade so as to show off the latest innovations in high-quality foodstuffs.

Concurrently with the exhibition itself, Foccus Gastronómico will also feature a range of activities and technical seminars aimed at the trade, covering both foodstuffs and the hospitality business in general. There will also be talks concerned with the latest laws and regulations governing the production and marketing of food products, given by experts in the field and specialists from the world of restaurants. The educational and technical aspects of these talks will be presented in a participatory fashion, stressing the value of the event as a strategic meeting point for trade specialists.

Foccus Gastronómico will thus seek to respond to the needs and demands of the foodstuffs trade along the Atlantic Rim of Europe, at a time when the market is shaped by the large-scale presence and development of major distributors and the service sector, represented principally by hotels, restaurants and catering services.

AN EVENT AIMED AT THE TRADE

Foccus Gastronómico is aimed clearly at the trade: exhibitors at the event will be producers or distributors of high-quality foodstuffs and trade visitors will be mainly from the hotel, restaurant and catering businesses.

the exhibition will comprise forums from various sectors linked to gastronomy such as producers, preparers, distributors and wholesalers, franchise holders, machinery, material and catering service suppliers, regulating bodies, provincial councils, regional governments and promotion organisations, among others.

According to data from EUSTAT for 2006, the Basque Autonomous Community has around 16.000 bars, restaurants and hotels.
